With a national network stretching from Moosejaw, Saskatchewan to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, RIOCAN needed to find a reliable data backup and recovery solution that they could implement easily throughout their organization.
Says Shazad Rojan, RIOCAN Network Systems Analyst, "We looked for a solution that would allow us to backup and restore our data on our own, but we found the necessary software and hardware to be quite expensive." In addition, most tape-based backup solutions would have been very difficult to implement because of the distances involved. RIOCAN chose Storage Guardian for its "no-worry features", says Rojan. "It's easy to use and fully automated, and it needs little or no maintenance on our part." Best of all, the implementation was relatively easy, since Storage Guardian transferred the necessary software to each head office via FTP. Backups are performed daily on specified hours, and Storage Guardian notifies RIOCAN daily about the status of each backup.
